Barn Conversion in Whitchurch

Brief

We’ve worked with Period Builders Ltd on many of their building projects since 2015. They are a family run business that specializes in restoration of period and listed buildings to a high standard.

This particular job was a slightly modern barn conversion in Whitchurch, Shropshire, that required our underfloor heating Shrewsbury team to provide our full-works package of underfloor energy efficient heating and liquid anhydrite screed.

Key Considerations

Period Builders had designed a long, narrow hallway in the centre of the building, with two large rooms at each end of the barn. This atypical layout could present an issue with manifold placement and the pipe layout.

We would need to place the manifold in an easy-to-access location, where the pipe layout would be efficient and not cross over each other. If we had to reduce the amount of loops to achieve this, it could result in less energy efficient heating. We also wanted to avoid laying pipes too close together in the hallway, as this could create hot spots.

What We Achieved

Our underfloor heating Shrewsbury team drafted different manifold and pipe layouts on the floorplan diagram, picking the one that was most efficient. We laid the piping with adequate spacing, ensuring the hallway would not become an overly hot spot when the heating was turned on.

When Period Builders were happy with the layout, we covered our work with 50mm of anhydrite screed, which was levelled to a smooth finish. The barn conversion project continued on schedule when the liquid screed had dried and cured sufficiently.
