Underfloor Heating and Renovation in Grantham

Brief

A client in Grantham, Lincolnshire, was undergoing a complete refurbishment of their property’s ground floor. They wanted EasyFlow to provide our full Easy Standard system, including damp proofing, floor insulation, underfloor heating, and self compacting concrete screed.

Key Considerations

This was a particularly challenging project to design, as the concrete sub-base was quite uneven, with differing levels of elevation. The client wanted the ground floor to be made level throughout.

It isn’t wise to run underfloor heating loops over different levels of elevation, as this can contribute to the formation of air-locks in the system. This could result in cold spots in zones across the floor. Therefore, we had to make the flooring level before laying down the pipes by adjusting the thickness of the floor insulation and screed.

Lastly, a central location was pre-picked by the client for our installers to locate the manifold. To satisfy the client, we had to design the piping in accordance with a bespoke layout.

What We Achieved

It’s good the client chose to use us, as we are holders of approved Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001 : 2015). This applies to the expert design of underfloor heating, with floor insulation, and liquid screeds. Through careful calculations, we designed a system where the pipes would be level without elevation changes.

Our installers laid a 1200 gauge damp proof membrane before insulating with a combination of 75mm and 25mm floor insulation boards. This brought the flooring to a level surface throughout the property. We then took a laser level survey of the floor in order to confirm our calculations for the liquid screeders met set datums.

The PEX pipes were laid in accordance with our design, before being covered with a layer of self compacting concrete screed as required. This would be walkable in 2 days, and ready for floor coverings within a week.
