Underfloor Heating Extension in Repton, Derbyshire

Brief

Working with one of our regular clients, we were tasked with designing an Easy Staple under floor heating system for a ground floor refurbishment and extension in Derbyshire.

They were looking to efficiently heat up their house and have full control over the comfort of their home, which is one of the amazing benefits of underfloor heating.

Key Considerations

There was a large open-plan area that needed to be designed carefully. If there were one long loop of pipe running over the open-plan area further away from the manifold, half of that room would be cold.

Furthermore, because water cools in the pipes on its way back to the manifold to be reheated, it needed to be placed in a convenient central location to avoid this. This would also help optimise the heating across the whole area and reduce cold spots under the return pipes.

The client wanted full control over the temperature regulation of their home, this included the sections of the open-plan area. Fortunately, one of the many benefits of underfloor heating is individual zoning that can be controlled independently with the thermostat.

What We Achieved

The floor plans were uploaded into our computer-aided design program and heat loss calculations were carried out to determine the pipe spacing required for each individual room. This was in order to get the best possible output from the system, maintaining energy efficient heating that will be operated from a conventional boiler. Using our program, a 5-zone system was installed consisting of 8 loops over 115 sqm.

Having installed the manifold and pipeline in accordance with the design, we filled the system with water and left it under pressure overnight. Returning the following day to supply and install a liquid screed to complete the package.

As some areas will be tiled, Easyflow returned to the site within the next 14 days to remove the surface laitance from the liquid screed to allow absorption of the primer before tiling.
